What height should my flat screen tv be from the floor?

I am thinking of buying a flat screen tv but am limited to the amount of wall space i have above my fire place. Is there a correct height , so to speak to mount a flat screen tv of either Plasma design or LCD?

1st, not a good idea to mount it over a fireplace! However, as to your specific question about height, for optimal viewing, not necessarily from a decorator’s view point, the set should be placed at a height where the bottom of the screen (minimum) to the middle of the screen (max) is at eye level, when sitting where you will do most of your watching. Again, for optimal viewing, there are no exceptions to this rule.
